Lecture 'Japanese screen from the collection of the Asian Art Society'

For the first time in many years a Japanese screen will be on dispak in the Asian art Pavilion. It is an attractive eight-leaf screen, depicting activiteit below spring blossoms. It is part of a small group of objects in the society’s collection that were not able to leave the warehouse due to their bad conditions. The Rijksmuseum is planning to restore and research these objects.  Researcher Lucien van Valen and curator Menno Fitski address the prvenance, restoration and materials of this beautiful work of art.

An article about the restoration of this screen is published in Aziatische Kunst, Volume 47, Nr. 1, March 2017.
