Stories in Paint: Glimpses of Indian Miniatures at the Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum houses a splendid collection of Indian miniature paintings, dating from the fifteenth through the twentieth centuries. These exquisite artworks encompass a wide range of subjects, from courtly scenes to poetic and devotional imagery. Forough Sajadi will deliver an overview of the Mughal and Deccani collection. Her presentation will be followed by a guided tour of a pop-up exhibition featuring selected highlights from the collection.

Dr. Forough Sajadi, is an art historian and cataloguer, specializing in Persian and Indian miniature paintings. She is currently working on a project titled “Indian Art Aficionado: Unveiling the Collections of Peter Formijne (1899-1995) at the Rijksmuseum”. This project builds on her latest book “The Persian Miniatures Collection of the Rijksmuseum, A Hidden Treasure Trove” (Brill: 2025).
