General Meeting and lecture ‘Art, Knowledge, and Politics in the 18th-Century Qianlong Court’

On Saturday 21 April the Asian Art Society will hold its General Meeting, traditionally followed by an interesting lecture. The board will present their views on 2017 and we will discuss the centenary celebrations of the current year 2018. Visiting Hulsewé-Wazniewski Professor Yu-chih Lai will hold a lecture about 'Art, Knowledge, and Politics in the 18th-Century Qianlong Court'. The lecture will be in English.

Preview ‘High Society’, Rijksmuseum

From 8 March - 3 June 2018 the Rijksmuseum presents 'High Society': thirty-five life-size portraits by the great masters in art history: from Cranach to Velázquez and from Rembrandt to Manet. Members of the Asian Art Society can visit before the official opening. Registration is not needed: enter with your membership card.

Ikigai Drinks and visit Rijksmuseum

Every year in December, the commission Ikigai organises drinks or a dinner. This year we would like to invite you to drinks in the Tunes Bar of the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam. Preceding the drinks, we will visit the Asian Pavilion of the Rijksmuseum, where curator Chinese Art, Dr. Ching-Ling Wang will give a talk about the exhibition on monochromes.

On Saturday 17 June we invite you to a dual lecture in Leeuwarden. Ferry Bertholet will talk about Chinese erotic art in relation to the exhibition 'Sexy Ceramics' that is currently on view in the Princessehof. The second lecture, 'Chintz, cotton in bloom' will be given by curator Gieneke Arnolli and is related to the exhibition 'Chintz' in the Fries Museum.
